Child Abuse Awareness Month: Each year, April is designated as Child Abuse Awareness Month. At River City Family Connections, throughout the month of April, we go to different agencies in our community to spread awareness on issues related to child abuse and neglect. Community education is a very important aspect in stopping child abuse and neglect as well as ending the cycle of violence that perpetuates itself throughout a child's life into adulthood. Each year as part of this awareness effort, children participate in a campaign named after a slogan that embodies awareness on healthy family relationships. Past slogans have been "love doesn't hurt, buddies not bullies, and H.E.L.P." Children in elementary levels create designs that display these slogans, the winner of the design challenge gets their artwork published on awareness materials. For adolescents, River City Family Connections provides education on the matter of teen dating violence and healthy relationships.
Family Fun Day: Every summer, River City Family Connections hosts a "Family Fun Day" where children and their families can have free fun in a safe environment. Events in the past have featured bounces houses, carnival games, zoo-mobiles, face painting, dunk tank, and more. This year's event took place on August 13th, 2022. Everyone had a wonderful time. We cannot wait to see you all again next year!
